Forty Years of Relentless Hype

It was forty years ago today,
Sgt. Pepper was released to play
They’ve been going in and out of style
But the boomers are guaranteed to smile.
So may I introduce to you
The act I’ve known for all these years,
Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

They’re Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,
I knew I couldn’t enjoy the show,
They’re Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,
Sit back and see the truth behind the hype.
Sgt. Pepper’s lonely, Sgt. Pepper’s lonely,
Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely tired act.

Not wonderful to hear,
It’s certainly not a thrill.
They’re such a overhyped mess,
I’d like to take an axe to it,
I’d love to crush it dead.

I really want to stop the show,
But I thought that you might like to know,
That the singer’s going to sing a song,
And he wants to continue to shill.
So let me introduce to you
The one and only overhyped album
It’s Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Someone, please, save us from the periodic hosannas to this fucking album and that damned mess Pet Sounds (that forty year anniversary was last year). I swear I’m not going to listen to the fucking radio at all in 2016 and 2017.

  1. Revolver was better. the White album was better. maybe we’ll just listen to Penny Lane a few times and be done with it…

  2. There’s a very easy way to knock the wind out of the boomer’s who periodically go into spasms over one of the Most Over-Hyped Ever.  It’s one of the absolute worst movies ever made, a cinematic abomination called Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Movie!

  3. Well, George’s stuff was the most interesting, and the White Album is by far my fav, but I’d much rather spend time w/ the Stone’s catalogue, or Pink Floyd’s, or even Elton John’s older stuff. More interesting by far ...

Smithee, the thing that Boomers who worship at the altar of What You Must Love won’t face is how close to the truth of the matter that movie was.

  4. Me, I’ll stick with the band that has no name. Vanguard of all things Mod. Maximum R&B. The Who, baby!

Goodbye Thunderfingers and Moon the Loon, we miss ya!
